Setting the Scene
After rallying from an 18-point second half deficit to emerge victorious in its playoff opener against No. 24 Washburn, the road toward a National Championship does not get any easier for the No. 4 West Texas A&M football team this week as it hits the road for Maryville, Mo., to battle last year's national runner-up, No. 5 Northwest Missouri State. Kick off from NWMSU's Bearcat Stadium is set for Noon on Saturday.
With only 16 teams still alive in the postseason, the stakes are high as the winner of Saturday's contest moves on to the final of the Southwest Region and one step closer to Florence, Ala., and the 2007 NCAA-II National Championship.
The game will be televised in the Amarillo area on KAMR (Ch. 4) and the KAMR coverage will also be webcast on www.gobuffsgo.com.
A Look at the Southwest Region
The first weekend of the `07 playoffs proved to be a very successful one for the Lone Star Conference as the league's two representatives (West Texas A&M and Abilene Christian) each dispatched their first round opponents.
The road gets tougher for the LSC squads this weekend as they both take to the road to battle highly ranked opponents - West Texas A&M at No. 5 Northwest Missouri State and Abilene Christian traveling to Chadron, Neb., to battle No. 2 Chadron State.

Series History (WTAMU leads 2-0)
The Buffs hold a 2-0 lead in the all-time series with the Bearcats, but the two teams have not met on the gridiron since the 1988 season. The Buffs traveled to Maryville, Mo., on Sept. 24. of that season and handed the Bearcats a 65-42 defeat. The loss is still marked in the Bearcat record books as the most points scored by NW Missouri State in a losing effort. A year earlier, the Buffs hosted the Bearcats at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium and emerged with a 33-21 victory.
