West Texas A&M Prominent Among LSC all-South Honors

CANYON, Texas - West Texas A&M, who finished the 2009 regular season with a 6-5 mark and will represent the league in the Kanza Bowl on December 5, had nine players represented on the first and second-team Lone Star Conference all-South Division squads, as announced by the League Thursday. The Buffs were represented with four offensive and five defensive choices. Included among those honored were Keithon Flemming, who was named Co-Offensive Back of the Year and Eugene Sims, who earned his second-consecutive Defensive Lineman of the Year award. Abilene Christian had 10 first-team picks and two individual award winners recognized, while Midwestern State and Texas A&M-Kingsville, who earned LSC titles with 9-2 conference marks, each had 10 athletes on the top two teams. The Mustangs and Javelinas both had six on offense and four on defense.Overall, 113 student-athletes were recognized by the LSC's postseason awards program, with 34 players named to the first team, 33 on the second team and another 46 gaining honorable mention. The all-conference honors were selected by the head coaches of the seven South Division teams. Buffs gaining all LSC recognition were: FIRST TEAM OFFENSE- RB Keithon Flemming (6-0, 210, Sr-2L) and OT J'Marcus Webb (6-8, 325, Sr-1L). FIRST TEAM DEFENSE- DT Broderick Marshall (6-3, 280, Sr-1L), DE Eugene Sims (6-6, 235, Sr-1L), OLB Bryan Braman (6-6, 245, Jr-TR), CB Tae Evans (5-11, 195, Jr-2L) and S Curtis Jefferson (6-0, 190, So-1L).
SECOND TEAM OFFENSE- OG Jon Ioane (6-5, 340, Sr-1L) and PK James Chandler (5-7, 190, Sr-1L) HONORABLE MENTION- QB Taylor Harris (6-3, 220, Jr-2L), ILB Anthony Scott (5-11, 245, Jr-2L) and S Jordan Smith (6-0, 185, Fr-RS). |
