The Teams
WTAMU is 1-5 overall, 0-3 in LSC South play, currently on a three-game skein, after suffering a heartbreaking, 21-20, loss to Eastern New Mexico University in the annual Wagon Wheel Game, Saturday at Portales, N.M. The Buffaloes had two chances to kick a game-winning field goal in the final 3:20 of the game, but had the first chance blocked and botched the snap and hold on the second. Senior quarterback Derek Maupin threw for 352 yards on 35-56 attempts and two TDs, and set a new WTAMU record for passing attempts, as he now has 1,078, passing Tod Mayfield's 1,036 attempts from 1984-86. Maupin is also closing in on Mayfield's career passing yardage, as he now has 6,467 yards, while Mayfield has 7,342 yards.

The Abilene Christian University Wildcats enter Saturday's game with the Buffaloes coming off a 4th quarter comeback, rallying from 10 points down to beat Angelo State University, 29-25, last Saturday. The game-winning TD came on a 44-yard fumble return by ACU's sophomore defensive back Danieal Manning with 2:30 in the game, after Dawon Gentry had a 73-yard punt return for a TD.

WTAMU totes the top-ranked passing offense in the LSC and second in the nation, as well as the fourth-ranked total offense in the conference, while ACU is the second-ranked passing defense in the league and seventh-ranked total defense in the LSC.
