West Texas A&M University men's basketball head coach Rick Cooper announced the signings of four players to join the Buffs in the 2004-05 season.

Cooper signed four junior college players: Finlay Brashears, a 6-6 forward from Howard College; Jarvis Brown, a 6-3 guard from Midland College; Ronnie Holmes, a 6-2 guard from Ohlone College; and Jordanas Mejeras, a 6-3 guard from Weatherford College. Brashears, Brown and Holmes will have two years of eligibility, while Mejeras will have three years of eligibility.

These four signings bring to the 2004 recruiting class to six, joining Amarillo High School's Tyler Cooper, a 6-5 forward from Amarillo High School and 6-2 guard Kyle Shields from Palo Duro High School, who signed with WTAMU last month.

Brashears is a 6-6 forward from Howard College in Big Spring, Texas, where he led the Hawks to a 44-14 record the last two seasons. Brashears averaged 7.2 points per game, starting 22 of 26 games played.

"Finlay is an excellent passer and a solid team performer," Cooper said. "He gives us added talent and depth at the forward position."

Brown is a 6-3 guard from Midland College in Midland, Texas, where he started all 32 games for the Chaparrals, leading them to a 30-7 season this year, including 13-1 in the WJCAC.

"Jarvis is an immediate help at the guard spot," Cooper said. "He comes from one of the top junior colleges in America and knows how to win, as well as being an excellent defender."

Holmes is a 6-2 guard from Ohlone College in Fremont, Calif., where he earned first-team All-California Coastal League honors after leading the Renegades to two-straight league championships. Ohlone had a 24-3 record this past season, and was 49-13 in Holmes' two years there. As a two-year starter, Holmes averaged 14.0 points, 7.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 3.2 steals per game, leading the league in steals.

"As with Jarvis Brown, Ronnie comes from one of the most successful junior colleges in the nation," Cooper said. "He is a true point guard and along with Carl Lamb and Kyle Shields, gives us proven, experienced help at that position. He is used to winning and obviously knows how to win."

Mejeras is a 6-3 guard who comes to WTAMU from Weatherford College in Weatherford, Texas, where he helped the Coyotes to a fourth-place finish in the North Texas Conference of the NJCAA. Mejeras, who redshirted his first season at Weatherford, is the younger brother of former Buff standout and current graduate assistant coach Arendijus Mejeras, who helped lead WTAMU to the 2003 LSC Championship.

"Just like his brother, Jordanas brings a solid work ethic, proven ability to shoot the ball, and a high-energy, competitive play to our team. The fact that he will be a Buff basketball player for the next three years only adds to his value to our program," Cooper said.

WTAMU finished the season with an 18-10 overall record, the Buffs' 11th-straight winning season under Rick Cooper and 18th-consecutive winning season overall.
