CANYON, Texas - West Texas A&M junior Tyler Cooper was named Academic Player of the Year to guide a group of five players chosen for the Lone Star Conference All-Academic Men's Basketball Team, it was announced Tuesday by league officials.

Cooper picked up his second consecutive Academic Player of the Year award with a perfect 4.0 grade point average in pre-medicine. He was part of a Buffs team that shared the South Division title and advanced to the NCAA Division II South Central Regional for the second time in as many seasons.

To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have reached sophomore status and carry at least a 3.20 grade point average. The All-Academic Team is selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league's sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement. All qualifying student-athletes not selected for the All-Academic Team are placed on the Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Cooper was joined on the All-Academic Team by Midwestern State's Drew Coffman, Christopher Reay and Russell Button, plus Ian Adams of East Central. In addition, Tarleton State's JD Robinson and Tanner Morgan were named to the Honor Roll.
