MBB NOTES: WTAMU Looking To Keep Winning Track Rolling To LSC Title

The West Texas A&M University men's basketball team, the second seed from the South, will travel to Durant, Okla. for the semifinals and final of the Lone Star Conference. The Buffs will face host and North No. 1 seed, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Friday night at 8 p.m. at SOSU's Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium (2,000). The South's No. 1 seed, 13th-ranked Tarleton State University, will play North No. 2 seed, the University of Central Oklahoma, at 6 p.m. in the other semifinal game on Friday night. The winners will advance to play in the Championship game on Saturday night at 7 p.m.

The Buffs, 21-7 overall and winners of seven of the last nine games, advanced to the semifinal round after knocking off the North's third seed, Southwestern Oklahoma State University, 84-70, in a quarterfinal game Tuesday night at the First United Bank Center.
WTAMU claimed the second seed in the LSC South after an impressive 80-60 upset over division champ Tarleton State at home Saturday, Feb. 25. The Texans were ranked No. 6 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches Poll and No. 2 in the NCAA-II South Central Region before Saturday night's defeat.
The Buffs are No. 6 in the NCAA-II South Central Region Rankings, which determine the 8-team field for the NCAA-II South Central Regional Tournament, March 12-15 at the top seed. All four teams in this weekend's action are ranked in the Region, as Tarleton State is No. 2, Central Oklahoma No. 7 and Southeastern Oklahoma is 8th. {See Page 4 For Complete NCAA-II South Central Region Rankings}
Southeastern Oklahoma is the North division co-champion and comes into this weekend as the North's No. 1 seed with a 9-3 LSC North record, winning a tiebreaker with UCO. Overall on the season the Savage Storm is 18-9 and are currently on a two game win streak. SOSU advanced to the semifinals as they defeated South No. 4 seed, Eastern New Mexico University, on Tuesday night, 93-63.
Central Oklahoma is the North's co-champion with SOSU but goes into the semifinals as the North's No. 2 seed and with a division record of 9-3, losing the tiebreaker to SOSU. UCO brings a 17-11 overall record into the weekend, and is currently on a five game win streak, during which they beat the other North co-champs, SOSU, on Feb. 22, 90-83. UCO advanced to the semifinals as they defeated South No. 3 seed, TAMU-Kingsville, 84-66.
Tarleton State goes to Durant as the 13th-ranked team in the country and as the South Division champs. Tarleton State finished the South with a 11-1 record and came in as the No. 1 seed in the South. TSU was on a 12-game win streak that started back to Jan. 12 when TSU defeated their Friday night opponent, UCO, 72-61. That streak was snapped on Feb. 25 when they lost at WTAMU, 80-60. TSU quickly got back on track and advanced to the semifinals with a win over North No. 4 seed TAMU-Commerce, 71-70.
