The West Texas A&M University men's basketball team, the second seed from the South, will play at home in the friendly confines of the First United Bank Center Tuesday, Feb. 28, facing the third seed from the North division, Southwestern Oklahoma State University, in the quarterfinals of the Lone Star Conference tournament. The showdown will begin at approximately 8 p.m., following the WTAMU-Cameron women's LSC quarterfinal contest.

WTAMU claimed the second seed in the LSC South after an astonishing 80-60 upset over division champ Tarleton State University at home Saturday, Feb. 25. The Texans were ranked No. 6 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches Poll and No. 2 in the NCAA-II South Central Region before Saturday night's defeat.

SWOSU secured a postseason bid Saturday night, by winning over Texas A&M University-Commerce, 80-70. The Bulldogs will be the North's No. 3 seed due to their series sweep of the Lions.

The Buffs are No. 6 in the NCAA-II South Central Region Rankings, which determine the 8-team field for the NCAA-II South Central Regional Tournament, March 12-15 at the top seed.

WTAMU holds the overall series lead, 20-13, over SWOSU, but the Bulldogs have won four of the last five including the first meeting this season back on Dec. 3 at SWOSU and both meetings last season. All three Bulldog victories have been by a combined seven points, as SWOSU beat WTAMU, 66-65 in OT, on Dec. 3, and then last year's 50-47 contest in the Thanksgiving Shootout and 53-50 a week later on the Buffs' home court. WTAMU's last victory over SWOSU was in 2004 at Weatherford, Okla., a 70-64 Buffs' win. The Bulldogs have won the last three match-ups on the Buffs' home court.
