MBB NOTES: Buffs Battling To Lock Up No. 2 Seed With Win Over LSC South Champ Texans Saturday in PDF Format

The West Texas A&M University men's basketball team returns home to the friendly confines of the First United Bank Center to face Lone Star Conference South division champion, Tarleton State University, Saturday, Feb. 25. The showdown will begin at approximately 8 p.m., following the WTAMU-TSU women's contest, which will determine the LSC South champion.

WTAMU is currently sitting in sole possession of second-place in the LSC South standings, trailing first-place Tarleton State University by two games. The Buffs secured a spot in the LSC Tournament with an 87-73 win over Abilene Christian University on Tuesday, Feb. 14.

The Buffs can lock up the second-seed from the South and host a first-round LSC Tournament game on Tuesday, Feb. 28, with a win Saturday over Tarleton State, or if either Angelo State University or Eastern New Mexico University win in their respective games Saturday against Texas A&M University-Kingsville and Midwestern State University. WTAMU would be the third seed and be on the road Tuesday if all three, WTAMU, Angelo State and Eastern New Mexico lose Saturday.

The Buffs are No. 6 in the NCAA-II South Central Region Rankings, while Tarleton State in No. 2 in the rankings that determine the 8-team field for the NCAA-II South Central Regional Tournament, March 12-15 at the top seed.

The Texans are ranked No. 6 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches Poll, climbing six spots from No. 12 last week. TSU was a preseason No. 1 pick in the NABC Poll, as well as three other polls.
