Three Basketball Student-Athletes Named CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Region
Feb. 8, 2007 CANYON, Texas - The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and ESPN the Magazine have announced their 2007 Academic All-District teams for men's and women's basketball. Honored in District IV's college division were junior Tyler Cooper, who earned first team accolades for the men, and sophomores Emily Brister and Kylee Aleman, who were selected to the first and second teams respectively on the women's side. Cooper, an Amarillo native, carries a 4.0 GPA in Pre-Med while playing in 19 games for the Buffs, posting an average of 9.8 points and pulling down 5.1 boards per contest. In his career, he has played 61 games putting up 462 points and adding 248 rebounds. Cooper was named the Lone Star Conference Academic Player of the Year following the 2005-06 campaign. Fellow Amarillo native Brister leads the Lady Buffs and the LSC in scoring with 479 points, averaging 21.8 points per game, while carrying a 3.83 GPA in Business. For her career, the standout is currently ranked 11th in WTAMU's record book with 1,155 points in 54 games. Brister was named the LSC South Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year for the 2005-06 season, as well as being named to the LSC Athlete of the Year. Aleman, also a native of Amarillo, has maintained a 4.0 GPA in Sports and Exercise Science while playing in 19 games for the Lady Buffs this season. She averages 2.3 points in just over seven minutes of play per contest.
