WT has Three Selected to CoSIDA Academic All-District Squad
Feb. 7, 2008
CANYON, Texas - The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and ESPN the Magazine announced the 2007 Basketball Academic All-District teams on Thursday and senior Tyler Cooper and junior Emily Brister drew first team accolades for West Texas A&M, while sophomore Holly Isaacs was named to the second team. Cooper, who boasts a 4.0 grade point average as a pre-med student, has been one of the leaders for the Buffs on the court this season by averaging 7.1 points per game to go along with five rebounds per contest. Cooper's leadership has helped the Buffs put together a 14-6 record on the year, which places them in the thick of the race for the Lone Star Conference title. This honor is just one of the many academic awards bestowed on Cooper, who was named the LSC Academic Player of the Year after last season. Brister, who was also selected as the LSC Academic Player of the Year in 2006-07, garnered first team Academic All-Region honors for the second year in a row. The Amarillo, Texas, native is looking to become WT's all-time leading scoring in only her third year of play as she has averaged 21 points per game for her Lady Buff career, including a LSC-leading 21.8 clip this season. Off the court, Brister continues to excel, maintaining a 3.90 GPA working toward her degree in elementary education. Isaacs, a pre-pharmacy major who has a 4.0 GPA in the classroom, has made a much bigger impact on the court during her second year with the Lady Buffs. The Brownfield, Texas, native has emerged as one of the top long-distance shooters on the team, making close to 40 percent of her attempts from long range while averaging 6.1 points per game.
