CANYON, Texas - With first place in the Lone Star Conference South Division within reach, the West Texas A&M men's basketball team will play second contest of a three game home stand on Thursday against Texas A&M-Kingsville at the First United Bank Center at 8 p.m.

During Monday's contest, the Buffs hit a season-high 13 three point field goals, while shooting 55 percent from the field, 56 percent from outside and scoring 44 points in the paint. The defense for WTAMU also stepped up against border rival Eastern New Mexico, holding the Greyhounds to just over 40 percent shooting from the field and outside.

The Buffs (13-8, 5-2 LSC-S), who are winners of three in a row, started the streak a week ago Monday at Eastern New Mexico. The winning continued at Kingsville last Thursday and Monday when WTAMU hosted Eastern.

Thursday's opponent TAMUK (15-6, 2-4 LSC-S) is on the opposite side of the spectrum, dropping five of the last seven, including two losses at home. The Javelinas are led by three scorers in double figures, as Remi Yusuf leads TAMUK in scoring, averaging 18.3 points per game. Following Yusuf are Rickey Huckaby and Bobby Pandy, who score 13 and 12.2 points per game respectively.

Leading the way for the Buffs is Damien Lolar, who averages 24 points and pulls down nine rebounds per game. Following the Arkansas City, Kan., native is junior Chris Hinz who scores 10.4 points and shoots a team leading .695 percent from the field. Nearing double figures for WTAMU is Kevin "Chip" Green and Tyler Cooper, who average 9.8 points per game, while Mike Baskerville chips in with 9.4 points per game.

Following Thursday's game, the Buffs will wait until Wednesday to play again, as they welcome Angelo State to the First United Bank Center for another 8 p.m. tip. After the contest against the Rams, WTAMU will travel to Abilene Christian for a 7 p.m. tip-off next Saturday.
