Senior guard Ronnie Holmes of the West Texas A&M University men's basketball team was named the Lone Star Conference South Division Player of the Week, announced Monday (Feb. 6) by the conference office, for his performance last week in leading the Buffs to a pair of victories.

Holmes, a 6-2 senior guard from Los Angeles, Calif., averaged 20 points, six rebounds and four assists per game in WTAMU's two games last week, including a career-high 24 points in Saturday's 74-60 win over Texas A&M University-Kingsville. In Monday's 93-81 win over Eastern New Mexico University, Holmes tallied 16 points Holmes hit 50 percent (12-of-24) field goal percentage for the week, including 7-of-12 (.583) from 3-point range, hitting 4-of-4 in the first half Saturday, as he had 16 points before the break.

Holmes also dished out six assists Saturday, as he leads the team and ranks eighth in the LSC in assists with 3.85 helpers per game, as well as third on the team in scoring with 11.3 ppg and second on the teams in steals with 1.6 spg. From behind the 3-point arc, Holmes is second on WTAMU with 30-of-73 (.411).

WTAMU is 16-5 overall and 5-1 in LSC South play, holding sole possession of second-place in the division, and have won two in a row and seven of the last eight.

The Buffs open a two-game road swing when they head West across the state line on Monday, Feb. 6 to take on border-rival Eastern New Mexico University at 8:30 p.m. Central Time.

WTAMU heads to Kingsville, Texas on Saturday, Feb. 11 for a rematch against TAMU-Kingsville at 4 p.m.
