WT Men's and Women's Hoops Set for LSC Showdown at Tarleton State

CANYON, Texas - West Texas A&M men's and women's basketball picked up wins over Midwestern State earlier this week and the teams now head to Stephenville, Texas, on Saturday to face Lone Star Conference foe Tarleton State.

The No. 18 Lady Buffs improved to 13-3 on the season and 3-0 in LSC South play with their 72-51 victory over MSU, WT's 40th consecutive home win and 29th straight win in the league. Junior guard Emily Brister sparked an 18-0 run with 5:25 to play in the first half with her uncontested lay-up as she and the Lady Buffs held the Mustangs scoreless until 17:40 mark of the second period. Freshman Joni Unruh led WT with her team and season-high 16 points on 6-of-7 made baskets, in addition to seven rebounds.

Brister leads WT with 347 total points for a total of 21.7 points per game while fellow classmates Courtney Lee and Jamie Dreiling also have been steady contributors for the Lady Buffs as they have 195 points (12.2 ppg) and 166 points (10.4), respectively. Dreiling also has the second highest rebound count, with 89, while Lee - the reigning LSC South Player of the Week - has the third-highest, with 74, including a team-high 37 offensive rebounds.

This weekend's match-up pits the two undefeated teams in the league against one another as Tarleton also is 3-0 in LSC South action and 12-4 overall. The TexAnns boast six players with over 100 points this season, led by Brittnie Haley's 181 points (11.3 ppg). Haley also has 95 rebounds while Jamie Ansley has 99 rebounds and 110 points (6.9 ppg). Additionally, JoAnne Jones, a 6'1" sophomore, has blocked 16 shots for TSU.

On the men's side, WT collected a 76-62 win over Midwestern State with the help of a career-high 31 points from senior Robert Lee, who connected on 11-of-14 field goals and 4-of-5 three-point shots. With their fifth straight victory, the Buffs improved to 13-5 overall and a perfect 3-0 in conference play. Senior Tyler Cooper added eight points and nine rebounds while senior Andre Hill contributed with six points - including back-to-back dunks in the second half - and six rebounds.

 

 

The No. 20 Tarleton State Texans head into this weekend's match-up with an overall record of 15-2 and a 2-0 conference mark after picking up a 67-59 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville on Wednesday. Avery Patterson leads TSU with 257 points for an average of 15.1 points per game while Eric Williams has pulled down 120 rebounds (7.1 rebounds per game).
