Dec. 19, 2004
LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- The West Texas A&M University men's basketball team definitely doesn't love Las Vegas as much as Elvis Prestley did, as the Buffs left the desert with an 0-2 record at the High Desert Classic at Las Vegas, Nev., after falling to #25 Pittsburg State University, 64-51, Sunday.
The Buffs had a 33-29 halftime lead after shooting 12-23 (52.2 percent) from the field, but were outscored 35-18 in the second half, as WTAMU was 7-27 (25.9 percent) from the floor after intermission.
Senior forward Jamil Terrell was the lone Buff player in double-digits, as he finished with 15 points to go with a team-high six rebounds and two blocked shots.
Senior guard Carl Lamb added nine points.
WTAMU was outrebounded, 40-26, despite committing three fewer turnovers that PSU.
The Gorillas had three players in double-figures, led by 19 points from Greg Campbell.
The Buffs dropped their fourth-straight game and sixth of their last seven, falling to 3-7 overall. Sunday's game was WTAMU's fourth in the last six games against a top 25 team and the Buffs' sixth consecutive unbeaten opponent.
PSU improves to 9-0, after defeating WTAMU for the first time ever, as the Buffs had won the previous two meetings, with the last being in the 1997-98 NCAA-II South Central Regional Tournament.
WTAMU returns home after Christmas to host Oklahoma Panhandle State University on Thursday, Dec. 30 at 8 p.m., following the WTAMU women vs. Adams State College.
