Buffs Top Chaps, 74-53, Thursday

The West Texas A&M University Buffalo men's basketball team beat Lubbock Christian University, 74-53, Thursday night at the First United Bank Center. The Buffs had a 37-29 rebounding advantage, as they swept the season meetings with the Chaps, and now lead the all-time series, 14-1.
WTAMU improved to 3-0 at home and 6-2 overall, while LCU slips to 2-7.
Five Buffs had nine or more points, led by junior guard Damien Lolar, who netted a game-high 24 points and dished out a career-high seven assists, while senior guard Ronnie Holmes tallied 14 points, four assists and three steals. Senior forward Patrick Culver, while senior guards Govinda Thomas-Carter and Steve Jackson all added nine points each.
Culver also swatted six shots and sophomore guard Kyle Shields had five assists.
Culver pulled down 10 rebounds to lead WTAMU to a 37-29 rebounding advantage, including 17 offensive boards.
LCU was led by 17 points by Max Eding, while Marques Baldwin added 12.
Down 11-10, the Buffs went on an 9-0 run to take a 19-11 lead, capped by a layup from sophomore forward Tyler Cooper at the 9:07 mark.
The lead grew to 43-24 with 13 seconds left in the half on a fast break dunk from Lolar and WTAMU took a 43-27 lead into halftime after LCU's Matt Martin hit a 3-pointer with two seconds left.
Jackson gave the Buffs a 45-27 lead with a layup 1:03 into the second half, before the Chaps chipped away at the deficit, knocking it down to 45-38 at the 15:02 mark on a layup from Baldwin.
The Buffs bounced back with an 11-3 run, ending with Thomas-Carter hitting a 3-pointer for a 56-41 WTAMU advantage with 7:30 left in the game and LCU never threatened again. The margin reached 20 points for the first time at 71-51 with 59 seconds left on a layup from Lolar and the Buffs coasted to victory.
WTAMU returns to the court on Saturday, hosting Texas A&M University-Commerce at 8 p.m., the second half of a doubleheader with the WTAMU women.
TAMU-C was at Portales, N.M., Thursday night, taking on Eastern New Mexico University.
The Lions edged ENMU, 71-69, Thursday night at Portales, N.M., overcoming a 69-64 lead with two minutes left in the game.
