Buff Basketball Wins Saturday 83-65 over Ouachita Baptist

CANYON, Texas - A dominating performance by senior Damien Lolar helped lift the West Texas A&M men's basketball over Ouachita Baptist, 83-65 on Saturday evening at the First United Bank Center. Lolar scored 47 points on Saturday, which is school record; the previous mark of 44 was set in 1944. WTAMU opened the game on a 9-0 run, and held a first half lead as high as 18 points at 11:59. The Tigers battled back and chipped its deficit down to eight late in the first half and that would be as close Ouachita got. At the break, the Buffs shot 55 percent from the field, while out rebounding the Tigers 19-11. WTAMU also forced 12 turnovers and stole the ball seven times. In the second half, the Buffs went on a 17-7 run that lasted nearly five minutes and saw their lead climb to 27. During the run by WTAMU Lolar scored 13 points. Overall for the game, WTAMU shot 55 percent from the field and out rebounded the Tigers 36-19, and forced 26 turnovers. The Buffs also went 18-of-25 from the free throw line, while OBU went 13-of-23. The win on Saturday night brings the Buffs record to 1-3 on the season, while Ouachita Baptist falls to 2-2 on the season. Up next for WTAMU is New Mexico Highland on Monday at 9 p.m. CST.
