Buff Basketball Defeats UC-Colorado Springs in Season Opener
Nov. 16, 2007
ALAMOSO, Colo. - During his first game in a Buffalo uniform, senior guard Robert Lee poured in a game-high 28 points, 14 of which came in the second half, and collected a team-leading seven rebounds to lead the West Texas men's basketball team to a season-opening 80-78 victory over UC-Colorado Springs at the Grizzly Tip-Off Classic. The Buffs got off to a hot start in the contest, jumping out to an 11-4 lead with junior guard Kyle Shields connected on his first two field goals since the 2005-06 season after sitting out last year with an injury. Shield led the Buffs, along with newcomer Clint McFall, with eight points in the opening period as WT was able to build as much as a 14 point lead at 25-11 before heading to intermission holding a 38-33 advantage. During the second half, Lee was crucial in the Buffs surviving the pesky Mountain Lions, who outscored them 45-42 after halftime, to escape with a victory and start the season out on a winning note. For the game, Lee was 10-of-17 from the field, including a 4-of-7 mark from long distance, as the Buffs shot 50% for the game and held a 33-27 rebounding advantage. In addition to Lee, McFall was also impressive during his Buffs' debut, contributing 14 points, while Shields finished with 10 and senior Andre Hill converted 5-of-6 shot attempts for 12 points. The Buffs are back in action tomorrow as they take on tournament host Adams State in a 9 p.m. (CST) match-up.
