KINGSVILLE, Texas - For the second consecutive contest away from its home arena, the West Texas A&M men's basketball team improved its position in the Lone Star Conference South Division standings with a pivotal road victory as Thursday night the Buffs handed Texas A&M-Kingsville a 65-63 defeat at Kingsville's Steinke Center.

The Buffs remain in second place in the LSC South race with the victory, which improves their league mark to 4-2 and their overall mark on the year to 12-8. Texas A&M-Kingsville, meanwhile, falls to 14-5 overall and 1-3 in LSC South play. The victory was the first for WTAMU at Kingsville since the 1999-2000 season and improves the Buffs' overall lead in the series between the two schools to 31-19.

Senior Kevin "Chip" Green paced the Buffs in scoring on the night, connecting on 5-of-7 shots from the floor to leave him with a game-high 14 points. Joining Green in double-figure scoring were teammates Mike Baskerville and Damien Lolar, who each contributed 10 points in the winning effort.

Lolar also posted an individual milestone on the evening, reaching the 1,000 point plateau during his time at WTAMU. In 51 career games since joining the Buffs prior to last season, the Arkansas City, Kan., native has contributed 1,001 points.

For the game, WTAMU held a 37-31 rebounding edge, a figure that included a 25-13 advantage during the first half that saw the Buffs carry a 33-26 scoreboard advantage into the intermission.

The Buffs shot impressive 48.8 percent (21-of-43) from the field during the game, but were hampered by 23 turnovers, while the Javelinas ended play with a 37.7 (23-of-62) shooting percentage from the floor.

West Texas A&M men's basketball is back in action on Monday when it hosts border rival Eastern New Mexico in a 7 p.m. match up at the First United Bank Center.
