Moody Earns CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors
May 13, 2004
West Texas A&M University senior second baseman Dan Moody was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VI Team announced today (May 13).
Moody, a 3.317 biology/pre-physical therapy major, was named to the second-team list. This is the second postseason award for Moody, who also earned first-team All-LSC accolades. Moody, a Corvallis, Ore., native, led WTAMU with a .373 batting average and a .429 on-base percentage this season, knocking a team-high 78 hits, which is the second-most in Buffs' history. Moody also tied a school-record with a 21-game hitting streak at the end of the season.
He also finished second on WTAMU's single-season stolen base list after swiping 32 bases this season. Michael Ornelaz holds the record with 38 in the 1995 season. Moody was the only Buff player to not only play in every game, but start every game as well. This is the second-straight All-LSC season for Moody, as he was named to the honorable mention list last year.
Moody was one of four Lone Star Conference players named to the All-District list, as Zack Humphrey from Southeastern Oklahoma State University was selected to the first-team, while Charles Copeland from East Central University and Jason Looper from Southwestern Oklahoma State University joined Moody on the second-team.
Student-athletes must meet four criteria to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors: 1) must have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or better, 2) must have at least two terms of attendance at the institution, 3) must be at least a sophomore in athletic eligibility, 4) must be a starter or key reserve in their respective sport.
The All-District selection is determined by voting of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). District VI is comprised of NCAA Division II and Division III and NAIA institutions from the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
WTAMU finished with a 19-36 overall record, 6-18 in the LSC South. The Buffs ended the season winning four of their last six contests.
