The West Texas A&M University baseball dropped their final game of the 2006 campaign Sunday against Angelo State University, falling 7-3 in eleven innings. WTAMU is now 0-9 all-time against ASU.

The Buffs finish the year with a 26-29 record, but reached their first ever postseason tournament since joining the Lone Star Conference.

The Rams jumped to an early lead 3-1, with a run in the first and two more in the second inning. Starter Cody Sessions and the Buffs would then settle in and hold ASU for eight straight innings. WTAMU scrapped in their three runs in the first, sixth and eighth innings. Sessions went 6 1/3 innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits, while walking four.

Senior Ben Prewett came in relief in the seventh inning and lasted until the eleventh. The senior from Childress, Texas got saddled with his first loss of the season, finishing the year with a 2-1 mark.

Junior leadoff man Cody Dean only went 1-4 on the day, but he scored two of the Buffs three runs. Sophomore Brian Schupp went 3-5 with two RBI and a run scored. Schupp scored the run that sent the game into extra innings in the eighth frame on a wild pitch.

Coach Mark Jones and the Buffs want to thank all of the fans for their support and look forward to seeing them in 2007.
