Ray Named LSC South Co-Hitter Of The Week
April 26, 2006
West Texas A&M University baseball player Matt Ray was named Lone Star Conference South Division Co-Hitter of the Week on Tuesday (April 25) by the conference office. Ray is a junior transfer player from Cisco College. The Crowley, Texas native split the honor with Angelo State University's John Beal.
Ray went 7 for 15 at the plate (.467) with a three-run home run as the Buffaloes swept Tarleton State University for the first time in school history. He had six RBI and two runs scored to go along with 10 total bases. He added a .667 slugging percentage, .500 on-base percentage and perfect fielding percentage while turning five double plays against TSU.
On the season, Ray is hitting .338 with seven doubles, two home runs and 26 RBI.
WTAMU is now 24-25 overall and 9-7 in LSC South action.
The Buffs need one more win or a Texas A&M University-Kingsville loss in the final weekend to send them to their first LSC tournament appearance in the program's history.
The Buffs will hit the road to finish the regular season at ACU this weekend, April 28-29, to try to capture the third spot in the South Division. ACU has already clinched the top spot in the South Division, currently sitting at 36-14 on the year and 12-4 in LSC-S play. TAMUK will host Eastern New Mexico University this weekend.
