West Texas A&M University baseball player Brandon Corbitt was named Lone Star Conference South Division Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday (April 4) by the conference office. Corbitt is a red-shirt freshman transfer from Frank Phillips College. The 6-2 righthander is a Stinnett, Texas native.

Corbitt limited nationally ranked Texas A&M University-Kingsville to just one run in seven innings in leading the Buffaloes to a 7-1 victory as part of their 3-1 series win over the Javelinas. The only run he yielded came in the fifth inning, ending an 18-inning streak of scoreless innings for Corbitt that dated back to March 5. The Javelinas came into the series batting .333 as a team and averaging 7.5 runs a game.

On the season, Corbitt has a 4.30 ERA and has a 3-2 overall record.

WTAMU won three out of four games against TAMU-K to begin LSC South division play. It was the first time the Buffs had beaten the Javelinas since 2003. WTAMU is now 18-18 overall and 3-1 in LSC South action. The Buffs have won 10 of their last 14 games, and have already surpassed their win total from the 16-39 campaign last season.

The Buffs will hit the road to face border-rival Eastern New Mexico University this weekend, April 7-8, to play their second division series of the season. After starting the year 16-4, ENMU has gone 3-15 over the past 18 games and is 1-3 in division battles. WTAMU will return home April 14-15 to host Angelo State University.
