ALPINE, Texas - After falling in the 2007 season opener on Friday, the West Texas A&M baseball team split the last two games of the three-game series with Sul Ross State. The Buffaloes dropped the first game on Saturday, 3-2, but managed to leave town with a 10-4 win.

In the loss, senior southpaw Jessie Rodriguez went the distance for the Buffs, going six innings. The Levelland, Texas, native gave up three runs, two earned, and struck out three Lobo batters.

WTAMU managed only four hits in the contest, led by junior Caleb Palmer, who contributed two singles. Senior Cody Dean had the Buffs' only extra-base hit, slapping an RBI double in the fourth inning.

The Buffs offense exploded in the final game of the series, knocking in 10 runs on 11 hits. Junior Brian Schupp went 2-for-4, with two runs scored and a two-run home run to left in the sixth inning. Dean, senior Matt Ray and junior Patrick Jones joined Schupp with two hits. Sophomore Dusty Corley went 1-for-3, hitting a solo home run in the eighth inning for his first career blast as a Buffalo.

Junior Bart Cannon registered the win, allowing seven hits in eight innings and striking out six. Cannon gave up all four Lobo runs, giving up the only earned run in the seventh inning.

WTAMU will return to host Lone Star Conference North Division foe Cameron University in a four-game series on Feb. 16-17 at Potter County Memorial Stadium in Amarillo.
