Greyhounds Take Game One From Buffs, 5-4
April 25, 2009 PORTALES, New Mexico - The Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico used a four run bottom of the first inning to defeat the Buffs of West Texas A&M, 5-4, at Greyhound Field in Portales. The Buffs fall to 19-31 overall with a 12-27 record in the Lone Star Conference while ENMU improves to 26-25 with a 21-20 conference mark. "Our offense played good enough to win the ballgame" said WT head coach Matt Vanderburg "We had the one bad inning that they scored four runs and that was the deciding factor." The Buffs started off the scoring in the top of the first, as Heath Baker (Highland Village, Texas) scored on an RBI groundout by teammate Joe Inzone (JR, Spring Valley, California) to take the early 1-0 lead. The Hounds struck back in the home half of the first, plating four runs on three hits to go along with one WT fielding error to take a 4-1 lead. The Buffs comeback came up just one run short, as WT plated three runs in the top of the sixth. The inning was highlighted by RBI singles by Baker and Brad Elders (SO, Amarillo, Texas). PJ Granado (JR, San Antonio, Texas) picked up the loss (3-7) for the Buffs, giving up five runs on eight hits in the complete game loss.
