RiverHawks Take Game Three From Buffs, 8-1
April 18, 2009 TAHLEQUAH, Oklahoma - The RiverHawks of Northeastern State used 15 hits to top the Buffs of West Texas A&M, 8-1, in game three of a weekend Lone Star Conference series at Rousey Field in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Game four of the series was cancelled due to heavy rains. The Buffs fall to 19-30 overall with a 12-26 mark in the LSC, while NSU improves to 20-28-1 with a 15-23-1 conference record. "Once again we didn't hit the ball well" said WT head coach Matt Vanderburg "Our offense is normally our strong point, but not this weekend." RiverHawk starter Jacob Lago was the star in game three, as the senior right-hander allowed just one run on only five WT hits in the complete game victory. The Northeastern offense did their job at the plate, pounding out 15 hits as they scored the first eight runs of the ballgame. The lone WT run came in the top of the seventh inning, as Coty Wilson (SR, China Spring, Texas) homered with one out to cut the NSU lead to 8-1. Sergio Marquez (JR, El Paso, Texas) picked up the loss on the mound (2-5) for the Buffs, giving up six runs on 11 hits in 4.0 innings of work. Game four of the series was cancelled as heavy rain moved into the Tahlequah area after the completion of game one. The Buffs return to action on April 21 as they travel to Goodwell, Oklahoma to face the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
