AMARILLO, Texas - The West Texas A&M Buffs used a walkoff single in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma, 9-8, on a cold and rainy day at the Dilla Villa in Amarillo.

The game saw a 90 minute rain delay in the top of the fifth inning, as a storm pushed through the Amarillo and Canyon area. The win improves the Buffs to 19-26 overall with a 12-23 mark in the Lone Star Conference.

"This was a huge win for our team" said WT head coach Matt Vanderburg "I'm proud of our guys for fighting through all the problems the weather gave us this afternoon."

The two teams traded runs throughout the first five innings, as Southeastern held a 6-5 lead before the rain delay came in the top of the fifth inning with two outs. The skies cleared after a 90 minute delay, and the Buffs took the lead on a Heath Baker (JR, Highland Village, Texas) two run single in the bottom of the fifth to give WT the 8-6 lead.

The Savage Storm tied the game up in the top of the sixth, as they plated two runs on one hit. The Buffs were determined to not let the game go into extra innings, as a second storm was entering the area.

Coty Wilson (SR, China Spring, Texas) lead off the inning with a single to center followed by a Jake Parsons (JR, Amarillo, Texas) sacrifice bunt to advance pinch-runner Tyson Hickman (JR, Pampa, Texas). Christian Figueroa (SR, Juncos, Puerto Rico) stepped up to the plate two batters later and drove a fastball to right center to score Hickman and give the Buffs the 9-8 game three victory.

The game ended just in time, as rain and hail began to fall on the Dilla Villa, cancelling game four of the series. Vanderburg and Savage Storm head coach Mike Matheney met with the umpires and decided that the field conditions and time issues didn't permit game four to be played.

"We knew playing game four tonight was out of the question" said Vanderburg "Coach Matheney and I agreed that our players had been here long enough for the day and the field wouldn't be playable anytime tomorrow to finish the series."

Adam Kramer (SR, Albequerque, New Mexico) picked up the win on the mound (2-4) for the Buffs, giving up no runs on no hits in 0.1 innings of relief.

Due to field conditions and the high chances of rain in the Amarillo area throughout the night, game four of the series has been cancelled.
