Buffs Drop Game Two To Savage Storm, 16-2
April 10, 2009
AMARILLO, Texas - The Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma used a 10 runs top of the third inning to cruise past the Buffs of West Texas A&M, 16-2, in the nightcap of a doubleheader at the Dilla Villa in Amarillo. The loss drops the Buffs to 18-26 overall with an 11-23 record in the Lone Star Conference. "Our hitting just wasn't on all day today" said WT head coach Matt Vanderburg "I'm disappointed in the way we played both games today, but we've got to use this as a lesson and move forward. Our plan is to win both games tomorrow and come away with a series split." The Savage Storm took an early 3-0 lead before WT answered back with one run in the home half of the second on a Coty Wilson (SR, China Spring, Texas) RBI double to score teammate Rob Mann (JR, Duncanville, Texas) to cut the Storm lead to 3-1. Southeastern blew the game open in the top of the third, as they plated 10 runs on nine hits highlighted by a Tyler Johnson three run homer to center field. The Savage Storm pitching would shut the door on the prolific WT offense, as the Buffs only other run came in the bottom of the fourth on a Will McLaughlin (SR, Crowley, Texas) sacrifice fly to score Mann. Zach Walker (FR, Dallas, Texas) picked up the loss on the mound (1-2) for the Buffs, giving up eight runs on seven hits in 2.1 innings of work. The Buffs return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. Before game one begins, WT will be honoring it's seven seniors that will be playing their last home games as Buffaloes.
