LAWTON, Okla -

LAWTON, Okla. - West Texas A&M defeated Cameron University 24-8, in the second game of a Friday afternoon doubleheader at Cameron's McCord Field in Lawton, Okla.

The win lifts the Buffaloes to 18-22 overall, 11-19 LSC, while Cameron falls to 29-10, 21-9 LSC.

The Buffaloes put this one away early, as they eruputed for 11 runs on eight hits in the first inning. Chris Figueroa started the fireworks with a two-run homer. Kevin Els had an RBI single to left field and, after the bases were loaded, Tyler Reagon drove in a run when he was hit by a pitch. Later in the inning, Rob Mann blasted a grand slam as the Buff's gave pitcher Zach Walker a cushion to work with.

Cameron scored four runs over the first two innings, with Chris Powell hitting a third-inning home run to make the score 14-7, in favor of WT. Walker left the game after two innings, giving way to Darik Heider, who pitched four perfect innings. Brett Sorenson pitched the sixth inning, allowing one run on two hits.

The Buffaloes scored four more runs in the top of the sixth inning as Christian Figueroa and Chris Wilson each hit two-run homers.

Heider (1-0) picked up the win for WT, while J Smith (3-2) was saddled with the loss. Smith lasted just 0.1 innings, allowing nine runs on seven hits.

The two teams play another doubleheader Saturday, April 4, with first pitch slated for 12:00 p.m. CDT.
