DURANT, Okla. -- The West Texas A&M University baseball team split two games Sunday with Southeastern Oklahoma State University to complete a four-game Lone Star Conference crossover series, dropping game one, 5-2, but coming back to win the second game, 7-1, at SOSU's Ballpark in Durant.

WTAMU split the four-game series with SOSU, and have now won 11 of the last 15 gmaes, improving to 15-16 overall on the year. SOSU is now 11-16.

The Buffs got on the board first in game one with a run in the second on an RBI double by senior 1B Drew Conley, scoring sophomore LF Josh McCreary, who reached on a walk.

The Savage Storm plated four runs in the bottom of the third, smacking seven hits in the inning, and taking advantage of a WTAMU error, to go up, 4-1.

SOSU tacked on an additional run in the fifth on a home run, before WTAMU added a run in the top of the seventh, as junior RF Cody Dean had a two-out RBI single to score Conley, but the Buffs left the bases loaded to end the game.

WTAMU managed only four hits off SOSU pitching, while the Savage Storm rapped out 14 hits.

Game two was the same hit totals, but the teams switched, with the Buffs belting 14 hits while freshman righthander Brandon Corbitt sprayed four hits while striking out two and walking four to earn the win, evening his record at 2-2.

In the first, WTAMU got a run on an RBI single by junior 2B Matt Ray, scoring sophomore DH Brian Schupp, who singled.

The Buffs hung a three-spot on the board in the top of the fourth, as sophomore CF Justin Graham belted a two-run double and Dean had a sac fly to score junior RF A.J. Knight to take a 4-0 lead.

 

 

Schupp had a sac fly in the sixth to plate Dean, and senior 3B Patrick Wallis followed with an RBI single.

SOSU got on the board with a run in the sixth with an unearned run after a WTAMU error.

The Buffs capped the scoring with a run in the seventh on an RBI single by Graham to score sophomore C Caleb Palmer, who led off the inning with a walk.

Graham ended the game 3-4 with three RBI, while Conley was 2-2 with a run scored, Knight went 2-3 with a run scored, and Wallis was 2-3 with an RBI. Ray was 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored and junior SS Gabe Gonzales was 2-5 with a run scored.

The Buffs open LSC South action, hosting Texas A&M University-Kingsville in a four-game series, Friday and Saturday, March 31 and April 1, at Potter County Memorial Stadium.
