2008: McLaughlin became the Buffs everyday first baseman as a junior in 2008, appearing in 48 games. At the plate, McLaughlin hit .369 with 11 doubles, 27 RBI's, and five home runs. On March 14, McLaughlin went 4 for 6 at the plate with four RBI and two home runs against nationally ranked Angelo State as the Buffs defeated the Rams 19-18. 2007: McLaughlin played sparingly as a redshirt freshman for the Buffs in 2007. He saw action in two games, starting one against Wayland Baptist on April 18. 2006: Redshirt season. High School: McLaughlin graduated from North Crowley HS (Texas), where he was a two sport athlete as he lettered in football and baseball. He was named first team all-district as a first baseman while leading the Panthers to the playoffs his senior season under head coach Greg Brown. McLaughlin lettered three times in football and was named honorable mention and third team all-district as wide receiver. Major: McLaughlin is a Sports and Exercise Science major at WTAMU with a minor in Mathematics.
