Tournament Central

CANYON, Texas  – The No. 23-ranked and fourth-seeded West Texas A&M baseball team opens its third-straight NCAA South Central Regional Thursday evening at 8 p.m. at Suplizio Field on the campus of Colorado Mesa University against No. 30 and third-seeded Angelo State.

FIRST PITCH
The Buffs head to their third-straight NCAA South Central Regional as the No. 4-seed in the regional and will face a familiar foe in league-rival Angelo State Thursday at 8 p.m. CT.

For the third-straight year, the regional will be held at Suplizio Field on the campus of Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colorado.

The regional features top-seeded Colorado Mesa, No. 2-seed St. Edward's, Angelo State, WT, No. 5-seed Texas A&M-Kingsville and No. 6-seed Lubbock Christian.

The Buffs have played four of the other five teams in the regional this season and are 8-12 against them as Colorado Mesa is the only team WT didn't face in 2016.

WT becomes the first current Lone Star Conference team to play in three-straight NCAA regionals and the first team since former member Abilene Christian went to three in consecutive years from 2008 through 2010.

This game is a rematch of the Lone Star Conference Championship as ASU won the first game of the championship forcing the "if necessary" game with WT, 5-1.  In the second game, the Buffs posted a 4-2 win last Saturday to earn their first Lone Star Conference Tournament title and automatic qualifier to the NCAA South Central Regional.
