The West Texas A&M University Athletic Department has announced that proceeds from the WTAMU Basketball doubleheader on Saturday, Jan. 22 against Texas A&M University-Commerce will go toward the American Red Cross Tsunami Relief Fund to support the relief efforts of the recent catastrophic earthquake and tsunamis that struck South Asia.

"West Texas A&M has always felt an obligation to help our community in whatever way we can. In this case it's a very large community that is in need," WTAMU President Russell C. Long said. "Our hearts go out to the victims of this tragic disaster."

With this being one of the world's largest natural disasters involving human tragedies, WTAMU is assisting in the effort by donating 50 percent of the ticket proceeds from the game to the relief fund.

"This is an opportunity for the West Texas A&M community to help the millions of people that are in need of relief from this tragedy," WTAMU Athletic Director Ed Harris said.

Adult general admission tickets are $7, while senior and student tickets are $4. Youth 12 and under are free of charge when accompanied by an adult.

Representatives from the Amarillo chapter of the American Red Cross will be on hand to accept the proceeds as well any other donations for relief effort from fans.
